You may have seen some beautiful fork bracelets at art fairs and flea markets, but did you know that some people wear a fork bracelet to signify something very important?
It’s true. If you see someone wearing a fork bracelet, they may have a very strong conviction about animal rights. It’s called the Liberation Pledge. And if they’ve taken the liberation pledge, there’s one thing that you need to know: if you want to eat a meal with them, it’s going to have to be vegan–or at least vegetarian. (Different people make different distinctions. Some may be willing to share a meal as long as everything is vegetarian, others are not.)
The Liberation Pledge is a three step promise, as follows.
- Publicly refuse to eat animals (live vegan),
- Publicly refuse to sit where animals are being eaten, and
- Encourage others to take the pledge.
If you’re interested in animal rights or veganism, you may have found a great person to talk to. And if you’re the kind of person who can’t have a meal without a little slice of animal flesh, then you’re going to need to suggest other meetup plans that don’t involve food.
